Intern, Southwest Florida Water Management District

The Southwest Florida Water Management District is seeking a student for a PAID internship. The intern will work with staff in the Springs and Environmental Flows section on a variety of projects such as springs restoration activities and minimum flows and levels development. The student must be motivated and willing to work indoors and outdoors. A graduate level student is preferred but undergraduate students will also be considered. This position will be based out of the Brooksville office and is capped at a maximum of 25 hours/week. The internship is currently open and is anticipated to last for up to a year and a half. Environmental Waste Coordinator, University of Florida

Application deadline: Feb. 5, 2014

This position is responsible for resource recovery and is integrally involved in accomplishing Zero Waste for the University. Works closely with the PPD Solid Waste and Recycling Coordinator and Solid Waste Vendor and the Department of Sustainability to conduct studies in order to identify waste streams that can be diverted into recyclable resources. Researches trends and develops innovative and advanced techniques in zero waste and resource recovery. Implements and monitors the operational processes for the reduction of waste.

Serves as the project manager or lead in projects designed to divert waste from the landfill, which might include programs such as composting, gasification, Bio digestion and others. It serves as the University’s technical expert for these matters, providing strategic direction and program suggestions for sustainable waste management. It is responsible for the progressive development and oversight of these sustainable programs.

Sustainability Outreach and Communications Coordinator, University of Florida

The University of Florida Office of Sustainability is seeking an Outreach and Communications Coordinator. This Coordinator promotes sustainability on campus through the effective and creative communication of sustainability principles, campus sustainability initiatives, and institutional best practices in ways that engage and motivate the full range of the campus community (faculty, staff, students) and the community-at-large. In addition, the Coordinator will be required to collaboratively oversee the creation of behavior change campaigns targeting all members of the campus community (faculty, staff, students) that show progress toward campus-wide sustainability goals and commitments. The Coordinator will be expected to be a strong member of a collaborative team within the Office of Sustainability working to be both a resource and inspiration for the campus community as it works to make the University of Florida a model and national leader in sustainability.
