Interns contribute to multiple aspects of SR Inc’s business from database management to content delivery to client process research on topics within the Sustainable Business & Enterprise Roundtable (SBER) research agenda.
SBER Research and Executive Guidance is based on Member-Client interviews, case studies, secondary resources, and discussions with sector experts and vendors. Research reports always include actionable guidance for executives who manage real estate portfolios. The published reports are continuously enhanced through Member-Client feedback; they are updated regularly as market conditions, technologies, and practices evolve. Research findings are presented at Client meetings throughout the U.S.
- Perform secondary research and analysis on an array of topics relating to management best practices in greater sustainability in real estate portfolios.
- Contribute to written reports, briefings, and advisories for Members-Clients.
- Track existing and anticipated government policies and regulations, including financial incentives, related to sustainability.
- Junior, senior, or recent college graduate.
- Individuals with an course work in architecture, building science, mechanical engineering, real estate, environmental science, energy, or urban planning, with a focus on sustainability preferred.
- Experience in business or academic research, preferably in a field related to sustainability.
- A developed interest in the key global sustainability issues and major sustainability initiatives by the private, nonprofit, and public sectors both in the U.S. and abroad.
- Excellent research skills.
- Excellent and written communication skills.
- The ability to efficiently contribute to publication quality written documents.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, especially PowerPoint.

Analyze commercial building energy and water use data using statistical methods and econometric analysis; Propose and conduct energy, financial, and/or emissions analyses; Communicate the technical aspects of ENERGY STAR to critical stakeholder communities, including examining and explaining the relationship between building codes and building energy performance; Train buliding industry partners in the use of ENERGY STAR technical tools; Coordinate with the Department of Energy, Energy Information Administration, on improvements to future Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) data collection efforts; Serve as the technical lead in meetings with senior officials and executives from private companies, local governments, and nonprofit organizations; Manage contractors assisting EPA in carrying out many of the activities conducted as part of the ENERGY STAR program.
You will spend less than 25%, of your work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

You do not need a degree to qualify for this position.
We are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below:
To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full time experience defined as experience conducting technical, statistical or policy analyses of environmental and/or economic impacts; AND experience managing studies evaluating the economic and environmental impact of energy efficiency and/or renewable energy regulations policies or issues.
Your answers to the on-line assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the principles, theories, and practices of analyzing commercial building energy and environmental data; Knowledge of development and management of technical tools and resources used by ENERGY STAR partner organizations; Ability to orally communicate the technical aspects of ENERGY STAR to critical stakeholder communities; Ability to examine and explain the relationship between building codes and building energy performance in writing.

Inspectors and Investigators
This is a provisional appointment.
Under general supervision, supervises the collection and removal of household refuse and recyclables being done under contract in an assigned district within the City of Boston. Observes for possible violations of laws or regulations pertaining to the storage and putting out for collection of refuse and recyclables. Notifies violators of same, and acts as liaison with other city and state agencies’ personnel in enforcing the sanitation laws. Delivers recycling blue boxes, stickers and literature, and puts out recycling signs when required. Issues permits as required. May supervise snow plowing being done under contract; and performs related work as required. Required to work any emergency as directed by the Commissioner of Public Works.
Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in the field of environmental sanitation, health inspection, or related work. Ability to exercise good judgment and focus on detail as required by the job. Computer proficiency preferred. Applicants must possess a valid Massachusetts Driver’s License.
