Intern, MassDEP (Various Locations)

The Department of Environmental Protection is the state agency responsible for ensuring clean air and water, the safe management of toxics and hazards, the recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, the timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources. In an effort to assist MassDEP with its succession planning, MassDEP continues to recruit individuals who are interested in working and utilizing their skills in the environmental field. MassDEP is providing opportunities to undergraduate students, graduate students, law school students, and other individuals who are seeking experience in the environmental field.

Inventory Intern, Sustainable Melrose Coalition, (Melrose, MA)

The Sustainable Melrose Coalition climate action group is seeking a part-time (approx 8-10 hrs/week) graduate student intern for the summer to perform a greenhouse gas inventory for the City of Melrose. The internship will involve data collection and analysis, documentation, developing information graphics, drafting a report and the opportunity to present findings to municipal groups and officials. Attendance at a small number of meetings will be required but otherwise all work can be performed offsite and on the intern’s schedule. A small stipend will be provided.

Call for Papers: Reducing Urban Poverty (Graduate Students)

To encourage a new generation of urban policy makers and promote early career research, Cities Alliance, IHC – Global Coalition for Inclusive Housing and Sustainable Cities, USAID, the Wilson Center, and the World Bank are co-sponsoring the 7th annual paper competition for graduate students, seeking abstracts on urban poverty in the developing world.

The grand prize winner will receive a travel stipend to attend the United Nations Habitat III Conference in Quito, Ecuador, in October 2016. Winning papers will be published and selected authors will be invited to present their work in a policy workshop at the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C.

Graduate Student Research Symposium, Tufts University, (Medford, MA)

The Research Symposium represents one of the GSC’s core missions: to promote communication between disciplines and across the schools. This is a great opportunity for graduate students to develop and hone their public speaking skills. It will challenge you to discuss your research with an audience of diverse academic backgrounds and allow the Tufts community to appreciate the extent of scholarly work that takes place here. The theme of this year’s symposium is effective communication. You can chose to present in one or more of the three different sessions: 15-minute presentations, 5-minute presentations, and a poster session.

Graduate Scholarships, EREF

 The Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) is one of the largest sources of solid waste research funding in the U.S., allocating approximately $1 million annually in research grants and graduate level scholarships.
Thus far, over 50 students have been EREF scholars, many of whom are now in key academic and professional positions across the U.S.
