Postdoctoral Research Associate, Leuphana University, (Lüneburg, Germany)

The positions are part of a new, transdisciplinary project funded by the State of Lower Saxony and Volkswagen Foundation entitled “Educating Future Change Agents – Higher Education as a Motor of the Sustainability Transformation”.

About the Project
Higher education for sustainable development supports future change agents in acquiring competencies necessary for undertaking the societal transition towards sustainability. The range of competencies considered critical for change agents in sustainability can be summarized in a small set of key competencies. Conveyance and acquisition of key competencies in sustainability would ideally happen on two levels. The first is the level of courses, with their topics, learning objectives, pedagogies, and assessments. The second, complementary level is the level of curricula, which is composed of courses and also includes cross-cutting programs and pedagogies (e.g., problem-based learning programs), embedded in particular institutional cultures.

There are two postdoctoral associate positions, each focusing on a different project aspect. You will be expected to work closely with the research consortium, including one other postdoctoral associate (level of curricula), four Principal Investigators, and five PhD students.

Director of Conference and Events, AASHE (Philadelphia, PA)

The Director of Conference & Events provides managerial oversight and direction for the coordination and planning of the AASHE Annual Conference & Expo as well as logistical support for other meetings including workshops, retreats and other events. Specific duties include site visit planning, pre and onsite registration management, scheduling, vendor management, room management, budgeting, contract negotiation, Request for Proposal management, site research, and hotel negotiation. AASHE’s Annual Conference is a multi-faceted event that brings together more than 2,300 attendees to participate in pre and post conference workshops and tours plus two days of educational sessions with more than 900 presenters, an exhibit hall with more than 90 exhibitors and 150 volunteers.

AmeriCorps Education & Outreach Coordinator (Raleigh, NC)

This position is based at the NC State University Sustainability Office in Raleigh, NC. Purpose of the position

The purpose of this position is to:

  • Build strong connections across campus
  • Promote environmental education through service learning
  • Create concrete ways sustainability programs can connect with underserved populations
  • Help define and articulate the interconnectedness of sustainability and diversity on campus
  • Infuse cultural competence into sustainability programs
  • Create network and programs that can be carried forward
  • Determine a focus for NC State’s sustainability and diversity focus
  • Use environmental education as a connector for the local solutions that support all people
  • Provide environmental educational training and resources to diverse audiences on campus

Position responsibilities

Sustainability Fellow (Collegeville, MN)

The Department of Sustainability and Saint John’s University invite applications for a full-time, 1 year benefit eligible position of Sustainability Fellow. This position will begin approximately June 1, 2015 through May 30, 2016.  This position exists to provide a job-based learning opportunity for a recent college graduate interested in a career in campus or corporate sustainability. Individuals graduating in May 2015 will be considered.

This position is responsible to educate and engage the campus community about sustainability issues and initiatives. Additionally, the fellow works to move the University towards its sustainability goals and to monitor our progress.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 1. Organize events to increase campus involvement in our sustainability efforts

2. Maintain institution’s compliance with sustainability-focused organizations and climate agreements including ACUPCC, AASHE, and STARS.

3. Update and maintain the greenhouse gas inventory and STARS audit.

4. Manage a team of interns and a number of volunteers on projects such as dorm room energy audits.

5. Write, edit, and publish a newsletter about sustainability projects and events on campus.

6. Serve as a resource for campus offices and individuals.

7. Develop and sustain relationships with staff, faculty, students, monastics, visitors and beyond the campus to provide opportunities for education, volunteering and research on campus sustainability.


1. Bachelor’s degree required.

2. Strong oral and written communication skills.

3. Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.

4. Passion for sustainability and environmental issues.

5. Computer skills and knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook are required.

6. Experience in web design, video production, and graphic design with Microsoft Publisher and Photoshop would be helpful.

7. Previous experience with campus organizing, event planning, energy efficiency, or sustainability initiatives is desirable.

8. Significant knowledge of SJU energy systems is desirable.
