Community and Partnership Manager – Climate CoLab (Cambridge, MA)

The goal of the Climate CoLab is to harness the collective intelligence of thousands of people from all around the world to address global climate change. The Community and Partnership Manager will build and sustain the on-line community as a key enabler of the project’s overall research mission; establish relationships with partner organizations and maintain existing relationships; work closely with multiple Climate CoLab contests and volunteers who run them; monitor and evaluate community growth and assess which community approaches lead to development of more effective solutions; coordinate with and contribute to social science experiments which will be a key part of the project; create and implement community engagement and partnership development plan; manage existing network of partners/volunteers and the online community; undertake initial web and email outreach to prospective partners/new members; collaborate with other key groups; and coordinate with and contribute to the research team undertaking social science observation and experimentation.

REQUIREMENTS: an undergraduate degree (advanced degree preferred) and experience building successful on-line communities and/or successful organizational relationships. Five years of experience in marketing, management of on-line communities, or social media is preferred. Enthusiasm for and commitment to addressing climate change is highly desirable, as is knowledge of or experience with collective intelligence/crowdsourcing initiatives. Must possess outstanding interpersonal, organizational, and oral and written communication skills; the ability to work independently as part of a cross-disciplinary team that includes faculty, staff, and students; and the ability to work virtually across geographic distances.

Communications Manager: WildAid (San Francisco, CA)

Reporting to the Managing Director, the CM will oversee WildAid’s non-programmatic communications, public relations, and new media outreach. Currently, WildAid reaches over 1 billion consumers across 35 different platforms through over 50 media partnerships. The successful candidate will bring creativity and resourcefulness to build WildAid’s multimedia and on-line presence, increasing public awareness, and supporting fundraising efforts. This role is both strategic and hands-on in nature; because WildAid’s mission revolves around harnessing the power of communication, the CM must have the vision for the communications strategy as well as be able to produce content themselves. Online Community Manager (Boston, MA)

A Better City (ABC) is a nonprofit membership organization that provides the business and institutional leadership essential for ensuring progress and tangible results on transportation, land development, and environmental investments that are vital to sustaining and improving the Boston area’s economy and quality of life.

The intern will build, grow and maintain ABC’s Challenge for Sustainability website and social media, review and update Sustainability Toolkit, and develop case studies to promote the accomplishments of Challenge participants.

Commitment:

June 18, 2012 – August 15, 2012

Responsibilities:

Website & Social Media

  • Design and develop content for Challenge for Sustainability web pages
  • Design case studies page
  • Design and program homepage and category homepages
  • Grow Challenge for Sustainability LinkedIn group
  • Facilitate and increase best practice sharing utilizing LinkedIn
  • Ensure that Challenge for Sustainability partnerships’ directories are current

Sustainability Toolkit

  • Update and maintain Toolkit pages
  • Add new content identifying participants for each item under “local businesses that adopted this”
  • Promote toolkit to sustainability media websites
  • Evaluate toolkit for potential for Web 2.0 as an online research community

Case Studies

  • Develop template for presenting case studies
  • Identify Challenge participant success stories and best practices, gather data, and coordinate with participant to develop case study

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with social media and community based social marketing
  • Experienced web designer
  • Interest and knowledgeable of fields of sustainability, transportation and urban planning
  • Resourceful
  • Software – Dreamweaver, web based blogging, Constant Contact

Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in or a strong interest in the fields of web design, social media, environment, and web 2.0

Hours/Compensation:

  • Part Time or Full Time (maximum 200 hours)
  • $10 per hour
