The Sustainability Coordinator – Outreach and Engagement, is a core member of the University of Virginia’s Office for Sustainability and will assist in leading the Facilities Management department in providing outreach and engagement for sustainability to support the educational, research, health care and public service mission of the University. This position engages students, faculty, and staff in University-wide sustainability initiatives through support of behavior change and educational programs, such as the Green Workplace Program and Sustainability Partners.
BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY
To develop, promote, coordinate and integrate sustainability efforts across the campus to position the campus as a leader in sustainability thought, practice and education. Communicate efforts and successes in incorporating sustainability principles into campus operations.

-Collecting and reporting data for the GVSU American College and University Presidents’ Climate Commitment (ACUPCC) agreement including the annual Climate Inventory and Climate Action Plan
-Collecting and reporting data for GVSU sustainability reporting including the annual Association for the Advancement for Sustainability in Higher Education, Sustainability Tracking Assessment and Rating System (AASHE STARS) Report
-Helping to identify on campus and off campus internship and associate opportunities for students and assist with placements
-Coordinating, supervising, and overseeing student interns and volunteers on sustainability projects
-Working with students and student groups to conceptualize and develop student run sustainability projects e.g. Eco-rep Program, Zero Waste events, Bike Rental Program
-Providing leadership for a clearinghouse of GVSU sustainability related programs and activities, events, data and information, as well as an overall sustainability calendar
-Serving as a liaison with facilities planning and facilities services, as well as with departmental staff

Develop and coordinate campus-wide programs of environmental stewardship, energy conservation, sustainability policy, environmental literacy, and community outreach. Coordinate academic, research operations, and student sustainability activities to foster a culture of sustainability among students, faculty and staff. Responsibilities include development of grant funding, corporate partnership, and programs that promote sustainability efforts. Serve as the point-of-contact for all sustainability activities on campus, including annual reporting requirements and other University policies relating to sustainability. In consultation with the Facilities Management and Operations Executive Director, assist in the development and oversight of a budget for the sustainability program. Work with the University Communications and Marketing Departments to increase awareness of UNL’s sustainability initiatives through various media.
The Sustainability Coordinator works collaboratively with administration, faculty, staff, and students to develop, coordinate, and promote effective sustainability initiatives to reduce the University’s impact on the environment. Responsibilities include educating the University community about sustainability and coordinating campus programming and activities related to sustainability, performing research about sustainability, and annual reporting.
