The Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Furman University, a private liberal arts undergraduate institution, invites applications for a one-year position at the Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Instructor level beginning in August 2014. Candidates should have a PhD or be ABD in Sustainability Science or a related field with a sustainability science focus and should be a dynamic and engaging individual with a desire to teach at the undergraduate level. Applicants should have demonstrated teaching and research expertise focusing on the interactions and feedbacks between environmental and social or human systems related to problems of sustainability. Teaching responsibilities consist of four courses with labs, including SUS 120 Principles of Sustainability Science and SUS 241 Social Systems, with the potential opportunity to teach an upper level course in the candidate’s specialty. The successful candidate will also be expected to interact with the Shi Center for Sustainability and become an affiliate faculty member of the Center.
Those candidates with skills in environmental justice, and/or Native American and Indigenous studies are strongly encouraged to apply. Candidates with interdisciplinary experience in two or more of the following areas will be given the highest consideration; environmental literature and ecocriticism; eco-film and media studies; eco-aesthetics and design; eco-philosophy; eco-psychology; and digital humanities. Training and supervision of teaching assistants, supervising research/internships and academic advising experience. Curricular development, relevant research experience and publication record will also be evaluated.
Applicants with an interest in,or experience with environmental justice are strongly encouraged to apply. One-year Faculty Fellow in Environmental Studies (Marine Conservation and Policy) Colby College
The Environmental Studies Program at Colby College invites applications for a one-year sabbatical replacement position in Marine Conservation and Policy to begin September 1, 2014. Candidates should have a Ph.D. in marine policy, marine science, environmental studies, or a related field as well as a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Specific areas of interest include, but are not limited to marine or fisheries conservation and marine environmental policy. Teaching responsibilities will include four courses taught at the introductory- and intermediate-levels. All courses will serve majors in the Environmental Studies Program, a strategic priority of the College.
