Applications are accepted on a rolling basis, and the next deadline is November 2nd! Upcoming deadlines are as follows: December 7th, 2012, January 4th, 2013, February 5th, 2013. As an OHS Volunteer, you will: Live with a host family and be an active member of their household. (Zanzibar only) Work with primary school students through a mentorship program focused on building strong Math and English foundations while empowering students. Work closely with members of the community to create social uplift. Lead after-school programs in non-traditional subjects like dance, debate, art, and sports. Work with a small, dynamic team of international university students.

Want to gain experience in schoolyard gardens programming? Assist Groundwork Somerville as their Garden Educators lead after school clubs in each elementary school garden through their Schoolyard Gardens Program in Somerville. This spring’s theme will be Garden Arts! (We are interested in hearing from potential volunteers even if you are unable to commit through June 8th.)
Garden Education Assistant

Garden Education Assistants will assist in nature/gardens programming in Groundwork Somerville’s after-school “Garden Arts” clubs this spring. You’ll help run activities involving the arts, gardening, and nature with groups of 8-12 students, grades K-5. All programs operate during after-school hours (2:30-5:30pm) on the same schedule each week, so you need to be able to commit to one day (1-2 hours) per week for the full 10 weeks of the program. Experience working with youth ages 5-12 and comfort being outside and dirty required! Additional leadership opportunities are available for experienced volunteers.
