Recycling Off-Campus in Medford

Medford operates a single stream recycling program, where all recyclables can be placed in a single recycling bin for pickup. Medford residents should already have recycling carts. If carts are damaged by Waste Management or worn out through normal use, they will be repaired or replaced at no charge after one calls 781-393-2419. However, if they are stolen, a replacement feee of $60 is charges as residents are responsible for the proper storage of their charts.

The following items are recyclable in Medford:

  1. Paper, cardboard, magazines, newspaper, and catalogs
  2. Metal cans
  3. Aluminum foils and carts
  4. Glass bottles and jars
  5. Plastic  (#1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 only)

Recyclable but not through single stream recycling:

  1. Styrofoam “peanuts” – call (800-828-2214) to find nearest location to recycle
  2. Scrap metal can be recycled at the Department of Public Works (DPW) Yard on James Street
  3. Paint can be recycled at the Paint Shed in the DPW Yard
  4. Rechargeable batteries, button batteries, general fluorescent bulbs/tubes, CFL light bulbs, thermometers, and cell phones can be recycled at Medford City Hall (DPW Office)
