Recap of Fifth Annual Tufts New England Case Competition

TUNECC 2018

The fifth annual Tufts New England Case Competition (TUNECC) took place August 3, 2018 at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, MA and featured 16 teams of advance degree candidates and holders from the east coast of the US and beyond. Represented institutions included Tuftss University, Harvard University, Rutgers University, Brandeis Univesity, Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, Stony Brook University, MIT, Duke University, NYU, Boston University, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Novartis Institute for Biomedical Research (NIBR), University of Massachusetts, University of Wisconsin, Cornell University, Columbia University, and Boston College.

Teams of three to five individuals presented their solutions to a business case focused on developing a a commericialization strategy for Seres Therapeutics microbiome platform, with an emphasis on maximizing their return on investment. Teams were able to compete for prize money totaling $3,500 while developing their critical thinking and presentation skills and receiving feedback from professional consultants. Additionally, participants had the opportunity to interact with consultants and professionals during a mini-career fair and networking reception. The program for the day concluded with an expert panel discussion discussing the development of microbiome therapeutics. Panelists for this year included Brian Goodman (Evelo Biosciences) and Julia Keith (RA Capital). The panel was moderated by Ken Kaitin from Tufts Center for the Study of Drug Development (CSDD).

2nd Place ($1,000) – Avant Consulting Group – Enoch Yue, Gian King, Nikhil Dondapati (Rutgers University)

3rd Place ($500) –Badger Business Solutions – Munish Chhabra, Jonathan Valdez, Zhihui Yao, Alex Harwig (University of Wisconsin – Madison)
