Supported Computers


The University fully supports business class computers that are less than five years old.

Gartner, a leading information technology research and advisory company providing technology related insight, has published research that shows the cost of computer support rises with the age of the computer.  Support related costs also climb when the diversity and complexity of the environment increases.  In order to maintain control of support costs, improve support response time, and increase security,  Tufts recommends choosing a standard computer and replacing all computers on a 4-5 year cycle.

OIT fully supports all Apple hardware that is less than five years old.

OIT fully supports most Dell Optiplex and Latitude (Business Class models) that are less than five years old.

All other models of computer will be provided with best-effort support.
