Software Policies – Installation and Licensing
The Office of Information Technology will only install fully licensed software that is compatible with our supported operating systems.
For this reason, when a request is received to install software, we need verification that it was purchased and is licensed. In keeping with this, we ask for a Proof of Purchase and a License key(s). If you have purchased multiple licenses, we will need proof of this as well.
OIT encourages users to carefully review the license policies of individual software vendors and to ensure that they are in compliance.
As an example, many software vendors allow installation on one work and one home computer.
Most software licensing agreements allow installation on one computer. OIT – and by extension Tufts personnel – cannot make any exceptions for obvious legal reasons.
If found out of compliance, Tufts University is subject to serious measures, such as large fines, and further scrutiny.
If you have the media for software you have purchased, OIT recommends that you abide by the licensing conditions.
A reminder: All computers purchased with Tufts funds of any kind (including grants) are the property of Tufts University.
