In August UIT will implement improvements to how caller ID information is presented to the outside world on external outgoing calls from Tufts University telephones. Currently, the main number for each campus is displayed on external caller ID when a call is initiated from a Tufts telephone:
Medford: 617-628-5000
Boston: 617-636-7000
Grafton: 508-839-5395
The improvements will allow the direct-dial telephone number to be displayed externally so that individuals outside the University can more easily return calls from Tufts faculty and staff. For example, if the extension in Medford is 71234, external caller ID will appear as 617-627-1234. Boston calls will appear as 617-636-xxxx and Grafton calls will appear as 508-839-xxxx or 508-887-xxxx.
The new functionality will be available on each campus on the following dates:
Medford: Tuesday, August 9
Boston: Thursday, August 11
Grafton: Friday, August 12
Individuals who prefer that their Tufts telephone continues to display the main number for their campus instead of their direct dial number may opt out of this change. Please note this is not something that can be changed on a per-call basis; it affects all calls made from an extension.
