Luís Artur

Co-Investigator

Luís Artur (PhD), works with sociology of disasters and climate change adaptation. He has been involved with Local-Led Adaptation Planning, Adaptive Social Protection, socio-ecology and M&E systems for Disaster Risk Reduction and climate change adaptation. Has worked extensively with government institutions, donors, private sector and NGOs across several countries, and acted as the dean of the faculty of Agronomy and Forestry engineering of the Eduardo Mondlane University during the period 2018-2020.  Amongst others, Artur is a member of the Red Cross movement, of the peasants union in Mozambique and of the International Humanitarian Studies Association. Currently he lectures Disaster Risk Reduction, Climate Change and Food Security and nutrition, Agrarian Sociology and Ecosystem and Local led adaptation. He is leading research projects on Forecast based Finance, Environment disaster and alternative energy sources, Community Based Adaptation, and vulnerability and adaptation. Has published extensively on issues of rural development, agriculture, disasters and climate change.

Meizal Popat

Researcher

Meizal is an agricultural economist with considerable experience in the agricultural sector in Mozambique. His academic background includes a PhD in Economics (University of New England, Australia), Masters in Agribusiness (University of Melbourne, Australia), and a degree in Agricultural Engineering (Eduardo Mondlane University, Mozambique). In addition to his experience as an agricultural economics lecturer, both in Australia and Mozambique, Meizal has also carried out a variety of research and consulting work related to the agricultural sector in Mozambique, working along with both government and non-government institutions, such as the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, WFP, FAO and others

Helena Boene

Researcher

Helena Boene is a Junior Researcher at the Manhiça Health Research Centre (CISM), working in the Population Studies area focusing on socio-behavioral research. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Geography and a Master’s degree in Social Anthropology (with a focus on Health and Illness) from Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique). Her research interests include the social determinants of health and the feasibility and acceptability of new health interventions, especially those targeting the most vulnerable communities in low-income countries. Her work explores aspects such as existing knowledge, care-seeking behavior, acceptability, utilization, and satisfaction with health services, with a special focus on reproductive and maternal health.

Angelo Francisco Amaro

Researcher

Angelo Francisco Amaro is the Executive Director of Kukumbi, a Mozambican ONG, and for the  past 27 year has been tirelessly working to enhance the resilience of communities and families affected by disaster with focus in WaSH, Nutrition and Climate Change in central region of Mozambique.

Norda Deve

Researcher

Norda Deve works with Kukumbi, a Mozambican ONG, and assists the UEM team as the administrative focal point for community engagement and research in the data collection area in the north of the country.
