It is difficult to identify veins in infants since they have much smaller blood vessels compared to adults, usually have excess subcutaneous adipose tissue, and do not stay very still during the procedure. As such, getting IV access is challenging for healthcare providers and causes major discomfort to infants during multiple attempts.
Our Goal (Needs Statement)
Designing a way to address difficulty in finding veins in babies that reduces repeated puncturing during blood draws
User Needs
Based on input from users, we hope to design a solution that will improve vein visibility in babies in a way that is safe, easy, and effective for both patients and healthcare providers.
