Initiative 2-2: Establish CEEO DEIJ Committee composed of CEEO members that will meet regularly.
The DEIJ Committee will work on other initiatives of the DEIJ Action Plan by planning DEIJ themed events and communicating both internal and external DEIJ events to CEEO members.
PURPOSE
The DEIJ Committee will help with a number of other initiatives on the DEIJ Plan including the following:
Initiative 1.1: Plan DEIJ Trainings and retreats
Initiative 1.4: Support inclusive management
Initiative 2.4: Conduct wellness surveys
Initiative 2.5: Schedule events for networking
Initiative 2.6: Share DEIJ resources from Tufts with CEEO members
COMMITTEE
The CEEO DEIJ Committee is voluntary committee open to faculty, staff, postdocs, graduate, and undergraduate students who sit at the CEEO.
GOALS
Monthly Meetings
The DEIJ Committee will meet monthly during the academic year to discuss, plan, problem solve for all situations considering DEIJ for CEEO, and work on the below goals.
Accountability for DEIJ work at CEEO
DEIJ Committee will plan and implement DEIJ trainings, monthly networking lunches and events, wellness surveys, and other needed resources. The committee will also bring forth issues that arise in CEEO and come up with solutions to solve them on behalf of CEEO. Committee will assess progress on DEIJ Initiatives and revise initiatives as needed.
Schedule DEIJ Trainings and Retreats
The DEIJ Committee will organize, host, and/or promote DEIJ related trainings to CEEO members three times a year. The DEIJ Committee will invite guests to speak to the CEEO (“host”) and identify different trainings that are available through Tufts or other resources from external sources (“promote”). Trainings can include a variety of formats including: interactive activities, talks and lectures, instructional videos, discuss groups, etc. The DEIJ Committee will plan one training each semester (3 annually) and one retreat (1 annually). CEEO will coordinate one training per year on inclusive leadership.
Issue Wellness Surveys
The DEIJ Committee will develop and initiate a CEEO-wide wellness survey once per academic year (late January) and two times during the summer (midsummer and the end of the summer) for summer employees. The wellness survey will target three metrics of the CEEO environment, (1) How do individual CEEO members feel about their experiences at the CEEO? (2) What support can the CEEO provide to improve the experiences of all CEEO members?, (3) Feedback on inclusive management. The DEIJ Committee will analyze, summarize, and share to CEEO members, and provide recommendations to CEEO leadership based on each wellness survey, with a potential outcome being a recommendation for a more comprehensive climate survey.
Wellness Hour Events
The DEIJ Committee will schedule and coordinate one wellness hour for CEEO members per month that will strive to celebrate different cultures and backgrounds.
Communication of Tufts Resources and Trainings to CEEO Community
The DEIJ Committee will identify and communicate different resources that Tufts is offering to CEEO members through the CEEO #Anti-Racism Slack channel to continue to inform CEEO members about offerings through Tufts School of Engineering and other Tufts University departments and schools. DEIJ Committee will aim to share one resource a month but will continue to share. DEIJ Committee will also compile and share resources on inclusive management. DEIJ Committee also attends Tufts resources and assess the quality and share out resources when appropriate.

The DEIJ Committee was created in 2021 and continues to meet biweekly to accomplish the stated goals. Work will be ongoing in perpetuity.
