Elucidating the Mechanisms of Meibomian Gland Oncogenesis & Corneal Wound Healing

Figure 1. Sebaceous carcinoma research model: Current studies are investigating the upstream drivers and downstream consequences of dysregulated oncogene expression in the context of neoplastic transformation of sebaceous cells. These projects aim to identify novel targets for the development of precision therapies for sebaceous carcinoma, an uncommon but often very aggressive and potentially fatal tumor of the ocular adnexa.
Figure 2. Corneal wound healing research model: Additional work in the lab aims to evaluate the pathways which regulate corneal cell migration and proliferation during wound restoration with the goal of identifying targets for therapeutic intervention which restore the ocular surface barrier while limiting sight-threatening scar formation.
