The Center for the Humanities at Tufts announces funding for virtual workshops for faculty in the humanities (broadly defined) who are in the final stages of completing a book manuscript or other similar major research or creative project of relevance to their academic work at Tufts. The Center will accept applications by faculty twice a year, on the dates noted below, and the executive board of the Center for the Humanities will award funds to support as many applications as available funding will allow. Priority will be given to pre-tenure tenure-track faculty, but the program is open to all research-active faculty regardless of rank (including lecturers), seniority, or full- or part-time status.
The aim of this award is to offer funds, primarily as honoraria, for faculty at Tufts to invite 2-3 outside specialists to review a project in progress (but very near completion) to offer substantive feedback and comments on the project in an organized meeting (workshop) involving the author/creator and the other readers.
The funds may be used for honoraria to pay each outside specialist, and we will offer similar amounts for research funds if the reader is a Tufts faculty member. Other incidental costs may also be included — e.g. making copies or mailing materials, etc. We envision these to be virtual workshops and will not fund travel or accommodation for readers.
To apply, please send your CV, a brief cover email, and a 2 page proposal outlining the project, offering details on anticipated deadlines for completion, names of possible outside readers (these may change if needed), and a very brief budget for honoraria/research funds. Please also include a rough estimate for the timing of the workshop (e.g. “the second half of April”). Completed applications can be sent to humanities@tufts.edu.
