International Student Visa

As a foreign national enrolled in a degree granting program with a residential component, international GMAP students are required by U.S. Immigration to hold a visa that allows full-time study. Most GMAP international students obtain an F-1 student visa. In order to begin this process, The Fletcher School will need to issue you an I-20 statement. We encourage you to start the visa application process as early as possible because it can take varying lengths of time depending on the country from which you are applying.

If you are entering the United States under a different visa category (i.e. “A” or “G”), please email Reiko Ohmura without applying for an I-20. DO NOT enter the United States on a B-1/B-2 Visitor Visa. The B-1/B-2 Visa does not permit full-time study.

If you have any questions about the International Student Visa process, please contact Reiko Ohmura, Senior International Student and Scholar Advisor (Tufts International Center): phone +1.617.627.2111; fax +1.617.627.4028; email reiko.ohmura@tufts.edu.
