Welcome to the Children’s Television Project!

The CTV Project is a long-running research program based out of the Eliot-Pearson Department of Child Study and Human Development at Tufts University. Because we know that television is a major force in children’s lives – even now when there are many entertainment platforms to choose from – we think it’s important to know what kinds of representations of gender, race, ethnicity and age children are exposed to on a regular basis. Over many years, we’ve found the demographics of people on kids’ tv present a very different picture than the demographics that exist in our country.

We’ve also investigated some of the reasons that TV continues to present inequalities and stereotypes by interviewing some of the writers, producers and directors who create children’s animated programming, as well as some of the actors who voice the characters.
