Sustainability in inorganic materials. To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, we must reinvent most aspects of our energy economy over the next 25 years. Our research laboratory develops new chemical processes around four broad themes:

(1) decarbonizing construction and critical materials,

(2) broadening access to renewable energy,

(3) increasing energy efficiency in computers and displays, and

(4) safely storing historical carbon dioxide emissions that must be removed from the atmosphere.
