Keynote Speaker

Our keynote speech is a lynchpin for the entire conference. As the theme is Decolonization(s): From the Ground-Up, we want a keynote that can give an appraisal of how decolonization can look different in different contexts, to different people; but how, ultimately, decolonization is the process of reclaiming autonomy, and reclaiming a people’s ownership of their own experience – past, present, and future.

However, our keynote is also envisioned to be relevant. The last few months have seen a perfect storm in the form of slowing economies, a global pandemic, and protests around the world pushing back against systemic racism today as well as the immortalization of oppressors-past. The DIR mission has never been more urgent, and this year’s keynote, Professor Robbie Shilliam, will be a reflection thereof.
