INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Office for Technology Transfer and Industry Collaboration (OTTIC) at Tufts University is launching a
paid 5-month internship program open to current graduate students and postdocs at Tufts who have a
background in life sciences, physical sciences and engineering, and a strong interest in the business side
of science. The program will start in October 2023 through March 2024 with possibility of extension
upon the discretion of the supervisor and the OTTIC Senior Director. This internship program requires a
5 to 7-hour-per-week commitment on the side of the student/postdoc.
At the beginning of the program, members of the OTTIC will instruct the interns on the basics of
technology transfer including invention evaluation, intellectual property management, marketing and
commercialization strategies, licensing contracts. Once the training phase is completed, each intern will
be paired with one or more tech transfer professionals in the office to apply these learnings to real-
world Tufts inventions primarily by assessing and evaluating new disclosures, and by contributing to the
technology marketing campaigns organized by the office.
Given that tech transfer lies at the intersection of different disciplines, this is a great opportunity to
acquire highly marketable skills and explore alternative career paths that require scientific expertise.
