Advancing Modeling in Offshore Wind through Integration with Data

Format: Hybrid

Time: 9:00 – 10:15 AM

Moderator: Babak Moaveni, Tufts University

Dr. Babak Moaveni is a Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Tufts University. He has expertise in structural dynamics and inverse modeling of dynamic systems using probabilistic approaches. In this panel, Dr. Moaveni provides an overview of his team’s research activities on digital twinning of the first two offshore wind farms in the US: Block Island Wind Farm and Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind.

Panelist: Filipe Magalhães, Universidade do Porto

Dr. Filipe Magalhães is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP). His research focuses on design and implementation of systems for structural monitoring incorporating new technological developments; development of algorithms for automatic processing of experimental data with special focus on the identification of modal parameters (automatic operational modal analysis); testing, monitoring and modeling of onshore and floating wind turbines.

Panelist: Hans Agger Hougaard, Ørsted

Hans Hougaard is a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Ørsted Operations’ Advanced Analytics department. He develops and implements digital products for monitoring the structural health of a fleet of offshore wind turbines to provide actionable insights. Among the products he works on are system identification, imbalance estimation, crack detection, major component failure diagnostics, load estimation, and anomaly detection.
