Reading Partnerships

In the spring semester of 2012 in the Digital Visual Culture Project, the third grade scholars worked with a reading partner in Mr. Timberlake’s English Language Arts class to read and study a chapter book. While reading chapter books with partners, they made drawings in sketchbooks to depict their understandings of the story. Each partnership communicated on Voicethread, an online discourse community platform, to reflect on their reading and to discuss one another’s drawings. The Voicethread and sketchbook activities led to painting various aspects of their reading comprehension. Each third grade scholar painted a scene from a favorite story part, and finally, creating collaborative animations with their reading partners.
