Abstract:
Individuals with co-occurring substance use disorders and mental health conditions are at increased risk for adverse health outcomes due to medication non-adherence. Medication adherence among individuals with co-occurring mental health conditions and substance use disorder can be supported through treatment interventions that focus on health management. Occupational therapists are well-positioned to address the occupation of health management including medication and illness management. Project aimed to develop, implement, and evaluate a psychoeducational group curriculum with additional supporting programming at a community based residential recovery program for women with co-occurring disorders. Group curriculum development included literature review and stakeholder input. Outcomes include greater client and staff engagement and improved programming on medication management.
