Evaluating Tufts University Dance Program Student Outcomes: Self-Perceived Creative Problem Solving Skills

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the development of creative problem-solving skills through Tufts dance curriculum, and how this skill apply to other everyday occupations. The participants of this study include students/recent alum who are/were dance minors, have taken creative-process based dance classes, and have participated in dance concerts. This project utilized a mixed-methods study, including both quantitative and qualitative data collected via survey and focus groups. Survey results showed 91% of participants see Tufts Dance as a contributing factor to their development of creative problem-solving skills. Most frequently identified outcomes include confidence, creativity, and social skills. Focus group results showed current and graduated Tufts dance students utilizes creative problem-solving skills frequently when engaging in education, work, and leisure activities. (126 words)
