Abstract:

Neurodiverse individuals face many barriers when receiving sexual and relationship education (SRE). This project aimed to take a deeper look at occupational therapy practitioners’ role in bridging that gap while also understanding OTPs perceptions about their role and the current state of SRE for neurodivergent individuals and any barriers or supports to addressing SRE. Data collection from OTPs who have worked with neurodiverse individuals helped inform a workshop given to EL-OTD at Tufts University. Results from the workshop outcome measures show an increase in confidence and comfortability in advocating for neurodiverse individuals suggesting that dedicating time for these discussions within OT programs can better educate future OTPs about their role within SRE.
