Abstract:

Individuals with a spinal cord injury (SCI) face heightened risks of secondary health conditions, many of which can be mitigated through effective health management strategies. SCI&U, an online health management program, offers Peer Health Coaching (PHC) to enhance health self-management skills among individuals with SCI. This project supports coaches delivering peer-led training to individuals with SCI through an accessible and comprehensive coaching manual. A needs assessment synthesizing over a decade of SCI&U research, in addition to qualitative data from a focus group of experienced PHCs (n=9) was conducted. This needs assessment informed the development of a coaching manual that will support coaches working with individuals living with SCI.
