Abstract:
Autistic and other neurodiverse individuals face many barriers to obtaining work in a desired setting.
Current project worked in collaboraion with 3LPlace, a nonprofit organizaion in Somerville MA, to
create tangible resources for developing work-related goals. Sustainable program development included
a work and career curriculum and building work-related relationships at Tufts and with the surrounding
community. Data collection from valuable stakeholders, including members, families, and staff, revealed
a desire for increasing work and volunteer opportunities for members to participate in. Extensive
synthesis of DDS and federal laws, along with consultation with experts, demonstrated need for careful
attention to nuances in navigating the complex regulation of work and career for individuals with
disabilities. Findings informed programmatic shifts to allow for more participation in various vocational
pathways.
