Abstract:

Club Rec, Arlington Recreation Department’s summer program, is a day camp that provides programming for children entering grades K-5. The camp aims to provide a meaningful, inclusive, fun, and social summer experience for elementary school-aged children. Leadership training and meaningful occupational engagement were prioritized based on previous recommendations. Nine leadership team members participated in a leadership workshop and a post-survey on their summer experience. Twenty-four counselors participated in a post-survey on their experience at camp and five out of those twenty-four participated in two focus groups on their summer experience. Results indicated the leadership workshop supported the leadership team in their engagement in their role as well as their ability to support counselors in their vocational role.
