School Garden Volunteer (Somerville)

We have an exciting opportunity for Tufts students interested in outdoor education and teaching K-12 students about growing food and tending to the environment.

Groundwork Somerville is an urban agriculture non-profit that maintains Somerville’s only urban farm and all of the school gardens across Somerville. Our mission is to build a greener, healthier, more equitable and climate-resilient Somerville. This fall, we are looking for college students/young adults who are interested in consistently volunteering during school garden lessons (2 hours a week). Once a week, school garden volunteers would support the School Garden Teacher in garden lesson activities and engage with students from the grades of Pre-K to 8th grade as they learn about the environment in their school garden. No experience or preparation is needed!

After-School Childcare for Kindergartener (Davis Square, Somerville)

Our Davis Square family of four is looking for some part-time, weekday, after-school childcare help for our loving, active, articulate, and creative 5-year-old kindergartener.

We’re hoping to find someone, or two people, interested in 5–10 hours/week, who would care for and play with our little guy from school pickup in Porter Square at 2:35pm until about 5 or 6pm a few days a week (ideally Tuesday, Thursday and Friday).

We imagine this could be the perfect opportunity for a college or graduate student — in particular someone studying or otherwise interested in early-childhood education.

There’s also the possibility of continuing with slightly different hours during the spring semester and perhaps even the summer, as well as weekend and nighttime sitting.

Compensation could be $20-22/hour depending on experience. 

Having a car isn’t a requirement, because school is walkable (or a direct bus or T trip) to our house, but someone with a car would be a bonus.

After-School Babysitting (Union Square, Somerville)

We’re looking for a great individual to pick up our kids and hang out with them after school.

Hours: Monday-Friday 2:45pm-5:45pm (except Wednesday, which starts one hour earlier: 1:45pm-5:45pm)

Responsibilities: Pick up our two sons (6 y.o and 4 y.o) from school in Union Square, Somerville. Bring them home (a 10 minute walk) or take them to nearby activities, and play with them or help them with homework, until we get back from work. They are bilingual French/English and very sweet. 

Pay: $25/hr (negotiable) based on experience. French language is a plus.

Requirements: Past experience caring for kids; fully vaccinated for COVID; at least one reference.

Part-time babysitter/nanny (West Somerville/Hillside)

We’re looking for a babysitter to care for our two young children (22 months and 3 months) beginning in September. 
Hours: about 7 hours/week Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9:30-1 (ish)

Location: West Somerville Hillside neighborhood, 5-10 minute walk from Tufts campus

Responsibilities: Play at home or walk to a nearby park, feed toddler a snack and lunch, give baby bottles, change diapers. 

Pay: $25-30/hour
Our toddler is very sweet and quick to warm up to friendly caregivers, and the baby is super mellow. Experience with infants and toddlers strongly preferred, but willing to train a great candidate if necessary!

Summer babysitting (Winter Hill)

We are looking for some help this summer babysitting our bright, sweet 4-year-old son with autism. We need help 3 afternoons per week, 1:00 PM-5:00 PM, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday. $20-25/hour.

He will be in summer school for several weeks and coming home on the bus. I work from home most days but If I’m not home, you would have to meet him at the bus right outside our house.

During the time you’re with him, you’ll just need to give him some snacks and play. He loves puzzles, cars, and playing with water. We’re working on potty training but he uses pull-ups and may need a change. We have outdoor space for playing and are near lots of parks and playgrounds.

We are located in Winter Hill in Somerville, close to bus lines and the Green Line. If you drive, we have a driveway with room for your car and also parking passes for street parking. We have one pet in the house, a grumpy cat who will most likely leave you alone.

Part-time babysitter (Somerville)

Seeking part-time babysitter in Somerville, Mondays 9am-3pm & occasional evenings

Hello! We are looking for a babysitter for our 18-month old daughter on most Mondays from 9am-3pm, and occasional evenings, mostly on Fri or Sat. On Mondays, dad will be working from home. 

Duties: Playing inside and outside (there are some parks nearby), changing diapers, feeding, putting her down to sleep. During her nap, it would be helpful to do some tidying and light cleaning in the kitchen. 

Location: We live in Somerville and have a visitors parking pass if you have a car. We are close to the Magoun Sq & Ball Sq Green Line stops, and the bus lines that go down Broadway. No driving is required.

Requirements: Enjoys spending time with toddlers. Non-smoker. Up to date on covid vaccine. CPR/first-aid certified preferred.

Pay: $18-20/ hour

My wife and I are looking for an occasional babysitter for our eight-year-old daughter.  We are looking for someone who can arrange their own transportation to and from our house in Ball Square (near the new Green Line stop and buses), non-smoker, CPR certified, vaccinated for Covid, and okay with 3 cute and non-aggressive cats.


Responsibilities would include playing, reading books, helping with homework, serving dinner, and helping her get ready for bed. We would pay $25/hour.

Babysitting (near Tufts)

We are looking for an occasional babysitter to assist with afternoon pick up of our 6-year-old daughter from West Somerville Neighborhood School (177 Powder House Boulevard).  We live one block from campus, so the school is a short walk, and transportation is not required.  We would love to find someone who likes to play games, read books, build with Legos and is ok with our friendly cat.

Location: Teele Ave., Somerville

Time(s):  Varying days, 5:30pm – 7pm

Responsibilities:

  1. Pick up from school and walk back home (a 5 minute walk). No car needed.
  2. Play/read and have fun 
  3. Offer kid a prepared meal
