Urban Education Leaders Internship Program (Summer in Washington D.C.)

The Urban Education Leaders Internship Program (UELIP) provides individuals the opportunity to get firsthand experience working in the Central Office of DCPS, one of the most innovative school districts in the U.S. and the fastest growing urban district in the nation. UELIP isn’t your average internship. Associates are matched with a team of professionals in Central Office to participate in mission-critical projects. Associates also participate in professional development including mentorship and coaching from district leaders, develop skills, network, and complete a final Capstone project, gaining hands-on experience to create positive change. We don’t have a major study requirement, so this opportunity is open to all current students and alumni.

Work Duration & Site
The internship runs from June 5, 2023 through August 4, 2023. UELIP Associates work between 20-25 hours per week. Accepted Associates will determine their weekly schedule with the Office of Leadership Development and the team at DCPS they are working most closely with. While hybrid options are available, UELIPs will be required to work in person at least two days per week.

  • This internship is unpaid. Applicants are encouraged to seek funding from their universities or other organizations, and/or course credit from their universities.
  • DCPS does not provide money for housing or transportation, nor do we arrange housing. We do, however, have a guide to finding and obtaining housing in DC that we provide as a resource for Associates coming from out of state.
