PLANNING INTERN (COMMUNITY PLANNING) UNPAID
2-3 Internship Positions
SUMMARY: Under the direction of Senior Planners / Community Planning, support
public outreach and its internal coordination. Assist with workshops, as well as planning,
zoning and land use regulation initiatives. Prepare meeting minutes and conduct
research.
Provide assistance on the following neighborhood planning projects:
• Downtown Crossing Economic Improvement Initiative
o Coordination with the Downtown Boston Business Improvement District
o Downtown Crossing arts initiatives
• Urban Agriculture Initiative
• Roxbury Strategic Master Plan implementation
• Municipal Harbor Planning Process
• Fairmount Line Planning Process
QUALIFICATIONS: Work requires Masters degree level enrollment in planning, urban
affairs or real estate. Candidates for a degree in city planning are preferred. Must have
proficiency with Microsoft Office; proficiency with Adobe CS is highly desirable.
Candidates planning to continue enrollment as students in the 2012 – 2013 academic year
are preferred. While the internship is unpaid, interns are often able to arrange funding for
work at the BRA through their academic program or other outside sources.
DATES OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: May 2012 to September 2012
Flexible start and end dates; schedules open to discussion based on student and employer needs.
Full or Part time schedules are available. Intern must be available to attend occasional
evening community meetings.
ALL INTERNS MUST BE CURRENT GRADUATE STUDENTS
Candidates for a degree in city planning are preferred.
*Students must supply a transcript (proof of current enrollment) prior to hire.
