EF Glocal Challenge 2015 – Energy Efficiency – Mentorship Opportunity for Students

by Sara Gomez Garcia on August 19, 2015

The Glocal Challenge involves a unique collaboration between the City of Cambridge Community Development Department, Cambridge Rindge and Latin School (CRLS) and EF Education First. It’s a three-month high school competition designed to provide experiential, project-based learning opportunities for CRLS students while tackling locally relevant issues.

This year, we are asking students to develop innovative plans to reduce energy use in Cambridge as part of the City’s effort to win the Georgetown University Energy Prize.

The students will be trained in Design Thinking and learn about energy issues from local experts and global case studies. In early December, the students pitch their ideas in front of a panel of distinguished judges and the winners receive scholarships to Iceland for EF’s “Future of Energy” Global Student Leaders Summit. Plus, the City of Cambridge will provide seed money to help the students implement their projects.

In previous years, we have connected Glocal Challenge students with mentors from Harvard Business School, Harvard College, MIT Sloan School and the Hult International Business School. The mentors coach the students and help them create realistic, implementable projects.

Would you be interested in this mentorship opportunity? The time commitment for a mentor is approx. five hours divided into three sessions – Oct. 20, Oct. 29, and Nov. 19, all from 2:30-4pm. The sessions will be held at Cambridge Rindge and Latin School. Mentors are welcome to dedicate more time throughout the competition or attend the final event, although this is not required. We will assign mentors to student team(s) and facilitate the entire process.
