REU: Plant Phylogenetic Community Ecology | UColorado Boulder

by Kris Pieper on February 17, 2016

We are recruiting two undergraduate students to conduct independent research
over 10 weeks this summer (23 May – 29 July) at the University
of Colorado Boulder as part of an NSF-funded REU. The project will involve
investigating the ecological and evolutionary processes influencing
the phylogenetic structure of plant communities across the United States.
Students will work in the Smith lab (www.colorado.edu/smithlab)
under the guidance of Dr. Julienne Ng and Dr. Robert Laport, primarily
generating DNA sequence data, conducting phylogenetic analyses, and
accessing and managing large amounts of plant trait data from public
databases.

Students will be provided a stipend of $500/week, dormitory housing and
transportation.

Participants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and an
undergraduate during the entire period. We especially encourage students
from groups traditionally underrepresented in science to apply.

To apply, please send a personal statement that describes your research
interests and how this REU will support your professional goals (no
more than half a page), a resume or CV, unofficial transcripts, and the
contact details of two professional references (including title, how you
know them, phone number and email address) to Dr. Julienne Ng
(julienne.ng@colorado.edu). Applications close 4th March, 2016.

Please direct any questions to Dr. Julienne Ng (julienne.ng@colorado.edu).
