The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (NH DHHS) is looking for a recent graduate interested in the intersection between human health and the environment with expertise in statistical analysis and web programming. See the attached job description for more information.

This position will support the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Program by analyzing data, publishing web apps, and developing reports. The EPHT Program is funded by the CDC National Environmental Public Health Tracking Program, which supports the collection, analysis, and interpretation of environmental health data. This work links health outcomes to environmental hazards. Data analysis will support the planning, implementation and evaluation of environmental health interventions in New Hampshire as well as outreach and communication of state-wide environmental health issues.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: High school diploma. Currently enrolled or a recent graduate from a recognized college or technical institute with a major study in environmental science, public health, statistics, mathematics, data science, or related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

 

Experience: Two years’ experience involving the preparation of statistical reports. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience collecting, analyzing and communicating environmental health information. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, R programming, and ArcGIS for data analysis and production of charts, graphs, and maps. Previous experience preparing presentations in Microsoft Powerpoint.

The State of New Hampshire, Department of Health & Human Services, Division of Public Health has a temporary vacancy for Environmental Public Health Tracking Intern

 

Summary:

Collects and compiles environmental health surveillance data for the Environmental Public Health Tracking (EPHT) Program under the direction of the EPHT Program Manager. Performs preliminary statistical analysis and prepares summary reports. Works with partners in the field, manages data, and provides key information to other project partners.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Interacts with other state and federal agencies as well as internal and external partners to collect and analyze environmental health data and other statistical information through oral and written correspondence.
  • Operates and performs data entry using standard statistical software.
  • Organizes and prepares data for analysis.
  • Implements quality assurance procedures to insure completeness, accuracy, and validity of data.
  • Ensures key data variables are complete and accurate for grant reporting and statistical analysis.
  • Performs preliminary statistical analysis and prepares EPHT summary reports. Compiles, computes and develops charts, tables, maps, and graphs for use by program personnel in project planning and the preparation of grants or studies.
  • Disseminates findings through summary reports, public presentations, and other outreach materials.
  • Maintains complete confidentiality of all sensitive information and adheres to rigorous system security procedures.
