Sustainability Coordinator
Job Description
Sustainability Coordinator – The Sustainability Coordinator is the face of sustainability practice for a mid-sized private school in Denver, Colorado. The school is Montessori accredited and serves toddlers through middle school with a commitment to raise stewards of the environment. As the Sustainability Coordinator you will work broadly to make the school a sustainable place through education and special projects.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver sustainability themed lessons to each classroom, typically 30 minutes long with groups of about 10 students
- Implement and maintain sustainability initiatives across campus, past projects have included installing a small hoop house, caring for chickens, installing rain barrels, building gardens, planting a wildflower meadow
- Support teaching staff as an aftercare teacher, caring for elementary aged students in our extended day program from 3:00pm to 5:00pm
- Work with teachers on special projects as needed
- Maintain a supply of planting and gardening supplies
- Advise teachers and administration on sustainability efforts as needed
- Drive the environmental ethos of the school through leading by example
Required Qualifications
- Demonstrated background in a related field – education, gardening/farming, or environmental science
- Ability to multi-task, prioritize deadlines, and collaborate in a fast-paced environment
- Patience when working with children and the willingness to connect with them
- Strong work ethic and collaborative spirit
- Ability to live 50lbs on a regular basis
Desired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science
- Experience designing and conducting scientific research
- 1-2 years in childcare or education
- Experience raising plants from seed
- Experience with drip irrigation
- Experience in composting
- Previous experience working with animals
