The National Socio-Environmental Synthesis Center (SESYNC) is seeking a full-time, experienced science communications professional to lead communications activities. The primary focus of the Science Communications Coordinator is to enhance awareness and understanding of SESYNC research and opportunities within the community of socio-environmental scientists, scientific knowledge users, and policy makers. The Science Communications Coordinator will have lead responsibility for developing and coordinating communications across SESYNC’s research network and with the educated public. S/he will:
– Collaborate in development and implementation of a high-impact SESYNC communications strategy;
– Develop and maintain close familiarity with SESYNC-supported research projects and key stakeholders;
– Serve as point of contact between SESYNC-supported researchers and the media;
– Coordinate communications efforts and foster collaboration with and among research teams, their home institutions, and with the broader research and education community;
– Promote the mission and research accomplishments of the SESYNC network;
– Cultivate and coordinate media outreach and placement of SESYNC results and opportunities;
– Collaborate with SESYNC staff and postdocs to develop communications and promotional materials;
– Ensure consistency of language and presentation in SESYNC’s outreach and communications materials;
– Evaluate the success and efficacy of communication materials and strategies;
– Support outreach and education events and general programs including organizing and running the weekly seminar series.
