Project Bread Internship
Project Bread is looking for a graduate student interested in health and nutrition to support efforts to evaluate the Summer Food Service Program in Massachusetts this fall. Deadline to apply is this Monday, September 30!
Time Commitment: 10-15 hours per week, from October–December 2019
Compensation: $20 per hour
Location: Project Bread offices in East Boston
Summer Eats background:Summer Eats serves free meals to youth 18 and under during the summer months when children do not have access to school meals. The program aims to fill the nutrition gap between academic years for low income youth, particularly those who rely on federal child nutrition programs during the school year. Summer Eats is an underutilized resource in Massachusetts. In summer 2018, only 13% of students eligible for free or reduced price meals in Massachusetts participated in Summer Eats. To understand reasons for low participation and identify barriers to access, Project Bread has distributed a Summer Eats Needs Assessment Survey statewide this summer.
About the position:The Summer Eats Evaluation Intern will support all aspects of the needs assessment effort. The Intern will take the lead on survey data management and data analysis to identify findings and trends. We also plan to execute supplemental qualitative needs assessment elements such as focus groups/interviews with Summer Eats sponsors and/or site staff in the fall of 2019, in which the Intern will play a major role. The Intern will integrate findings from qualitative aspects with survey findings and pull information together into a Summer Eats Needs Assessment report. Project Bread is seeking a qualified graduate student for this internship. Beneficial skills for this project will include:
- Strong research and analytical skills, including data management and analysis experience and work to integrate quantitative and qualitative datasets
- Experience conducting focus groups and/or interviews for research
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong time management skills and ability to work on projects with multiple moving parts
How to apply:Submit resume and brief cover letter outlining qualifications and interest to Natasha_Smith@projectbread.org by September 30, 2019.
