As a Cartography Intern on our Data Labs team, you will synthesize complex, dynamic agricultural concepts through compelling, insightful maps for both web and print. You will work with agricultural, demographic, and weather data from both open and proprietary sources including the USDA, NOAA, and Indigo’s internal data feeds. We are looking for a creative and detail-oriented self-starter who is curious to learn and excited to foster cartographic excellence in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment.
Responsibilities
- Create interactive and static maps for internal and external stakeholders in support of reporting, marketing, and analysis
- Develop cartographic resources in alignment with Indigo’s graphic identity, including color schemes for both web and print and elements of user-interface design
- Collaborate with agronomists, data scientists, and engineers to identify and synthesize spatial data for cartographic use

Qualifications
- Strong foundation in cartographic design principles
- Conceptual and technical familiarity with spatial data: file formats (GeoJSON, TopoJSON, shapefile), spatial reference systems, etc.
- Working knowledge of spatial data tools (QGIS, PostGIS, or similar) and vector graphics software (Inkscape, Sketch, or similar)
- Familiarity with Mapbox (Studio, GL JS) and/or CARTO (Builder, VL) is a plus
- Experience with (or desire to learn) data scripting (SQL, Python) is a plus
