Land Conservation/GIS Internship at Greenbelt

Essex County Greenbelt Association seeks an intern to assist the Land
Conservation department in the spring semester of 2020. This position will
support the day-to-day GIS needs of the department, with a focus on the
production of story maps for climate change outreach. Other work may include field data collection, database updating, researching land parcel information, map making, and other projects as they arise. The internship offers a combination of field and office work with direct hands on conservation and GIS experience. Position is part-time: 2-3 days a week, with flexibility on hours. A $2000 stipend will be provided, with potential for academic credit.

Qualifications:

  • Attention to detail, motivated, and capable of working independently
  • Commitment to problem solving
  • Strong written communication skills; experience writing articles or creating multimedia content for websites or web mapping is a plus
  • Experience with ArcGIS, comfortable with basic mapping
  • Basic computer skills: Microsoft Word, Excel, e-mail
  • Experience with story maps not required but beneficial
  • Must have experience or interest in land conservation, climate change, or other appropriately related disciplines

About Greenbelt: Essex County Greenbelt Association is a member supported nonprofit land trust that has conserved over 17,000 acres of land in Essex County, Massachusetts since 1961. Greenbelt works with local communities and landowners to acquire and protect ecological areas, farmland and scenic vistas.
