by Hazel J. Ostrowski on March 26, 2020

Teams of MFA, BFA or Art Minor students + Science or Engineering students work collaboratively across 8 months towards the creation of low-environmental-impact and non-toxic art supplies/methods. Examples include food-based inks and dyes, mineral and/or plant-based paints, recycled/post-consumer materials for sculpture, mushroom-based sculpture, and more.

April 7 2020: Teams sign up for the challenge by emailing silvia.bottinelli@tufts.edu (subject: HSS AWARD). The message includes names and program/field of study of the team members and an initial project idea. Teams receive reimbursement for materials.

September 8, 2020: Teams submit their work in progress for an initial review by the Award Committee (including the applicants for this TIE Venture Grant and a TIE representative).

October 15, 2020: The SMFA will host a lunch-time demonstration of the teams’ innovations; during the event, the public will be able to share feedback and express support for specific teams. October 30, 2020: The Award Committee will vote for the best team, whose members will receive an award of 1,500.00 $.
