Camp Counselor West Virginia
Hello! I am reaching out about a paid summer internship for your students with an interest in environmentalism, pollinator and plant sciences, and/or working with children in low resourced areas.
I run a nonprofit, Appalachian Headwaters, focused on ecological restoration on mined lands, environmental education, and economic development in Appalachia. One of our programs is a three-week environmental summer camp, Camp Waldo, in southern West Virginia. We are looking for college students to join us as camp counselors from July 5-30. We also offer counselors paid internships in other parts of the organization (pollinator science, environmental philosophy, communications/marketing, reforestation ecology, native plant horticulture, beekeeping, organic farming, and economic development).
Do you think any of your students might be interested? We are paying staff $1500 for the three weeks of camp, plus providing all meals and housing. We also provide housing and a weekly stipend for the internship period. They can apply here. We’ve had counselors from some great local colleges as well as places like Yale, Princeton, and Middlebury. Counselors have a really good experience getting to know students from all over and helping children in Appalachia. We’re still working out the details, but we have a good base of policies that we feel confident will let us have a safe camp environment and limit the spread of covid-19.
I’d really appreciate if you would pass the job along to anyone who might be interested. I’d be happy to talk to any students that you think might be interested. Thank you for considering!
Best,
Katie Warner Asquith (kasquith@appheadwaters.org)
Director of Programs, Appalachian Headwaters
