Position Description
The Benthic Ecology Lab (Archerbenthicecologylab.com) at Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is seeking to hire one Research Technician to start in January 2022. The successful applicant will gain research experience in the fields of aquatic ecology and aquaculture. The technician will primarily assist Dr. Archer on a project focused on developing new markets for invasive carp in Louisiana. Specifically, the successful applicant will be responsible for maintaining live fish, conducting a feeding trial to assess carp-product performance in catfish feeds, and collecting and preparing samples of fish tissue for contaminant, proximate, and fatty acid analysis. As time allows, the successful applicant will also assist Dr. Archer with multiple ongoing studies focused on the ecology of biogenic habitats (e.g., oyster reefs, seagrass beds, and sponge grounds). The position will involve a combination of field, lab, and computer-based work.

Qualifications
Required
B.S. degree in Biology or Environmental Science (or related field)
Experience with animal husbandry
Detail oriented
Comfort working in and around the water
Ability and willingness to obtain the skills and certifications necessary to operate LUMCON small vessels (https://lumcon.edu/small-boats/). 

Preferred
Familiarity with data management and analysis in R.

Duration and Start Date:
This position begins January 15, 2022 and the initial appointment will be for one year with the possibility of an extension pending funding and satisfactory performance.

Salary:
Starting salary will be $31,200

Location:
The position will be based at the DeFelice Marine Center in Cocodrie, LA.
