Coyote Canyon Farm Internship (Morgan Hill, CA)

Coyote Canyon Farm has two apprenticeship positions available for the 2012 season: a full-season apprenticeship and a summer internship. We believe strongly in small-scale farming as a means of education, for ourselves and for others, and as a way of sharing in a community centered around food and local economy. To that end, we are seeking young farmers dedicated to farming and/or gardening, an outdoors lifestyle, creativity, and the hard work involved in running a CSA program.

The full-season apprenticeship, which runs from May 1 to November 1, introduces the apprentice to all aspects of running a small farm over the course of the growing season. This person will be expected to be a full working member of the farm, participating in crop planning, field preparation, propagation, planting, harvesting, deliveries, farmers’ markets, and office work. Our goal is to allow an individual to become a capable and knowledgeable small-scale agriculturalist, introduced not only to principles of sustainable farming but also to the larger community of small, sustainably-run farms in the area. The full-season apprentice receives a $200 monthly stipend.

The summer internship runs from June 1 to September 1, incorporating an individual into the daily routine, working alongside the farmers on the field. The goal of the summer intern should be to gain vital skills in the realm of sustainable agriculture. Our goal is to introduce the intern to the details and practices of raising plants from seed to harvest, taking care of our soil, and conceptualizing the needs of a small farm ecosystem.
