Farming Intern | Circle A Garden

Circle A Garden is a three acre farm just south of Montrose, Colorado. We
focus on growing hundreds of varieties of mixed vegetables, herbs, and some
fruit. Our philosophy is that we nourish the soil, the soil nourishes the
plants, and the plants nourish the people. In practical terms this means that
we are a no-till, non-mechanized, soil regenerative farm.  While we are not
certified organic, we never use any synthetic inputs, and go beyond all NOP
guidelines. We care for the farm ecosystem through encouraging our
pollinators, beneficial insects, and microbes to manage our pest problems,
cover crops, crop rotation, and natural amendments to manage weed and disease
problems while promoting overall soil health.

Our internship is a hands on learning experience, working along with us
everyday as we care for the farm, teaching you as we go through the season.
With over 30 years of farming experience, our extensive library, and fellow
farmers in the area, there is a wealth of information available.

A few of the things interns can expect to learn are basic gardening/farming
and season extension in a high desert region, everything from bed preparation
to post harvest handling, insect identification and control methods, weed
identification and management, drip irrigation, seed saving, CSA, Cooperative
Farmstand and Farmer’s Market operation.

While we do not require that interns arrive with experience, we do require a
strong work ethic, an eagerness to learn, and a sense of humor. We ask for a
minimum six week commitment with an initial two week trial period to ensure it
is a good fit for everyone.

In return we provide all the fresh produce you can possibly utilize, and a
small stipend to help cover additional living expenses, potentially increasing
after six weeks.

If you are looking for a great learning experience in small scale sustainable
agriculture, please get in touch. Our internships are available from February
to November.
