Located on 65 scenic acres in New Paltz, NY, Phillies Bridge Farm Project (PBFP) is a non-profit working farm. As one of the first non-profit CSA’s in the region, Phillies Bridge is known not only for its delicious veggies, but also for a consistent dedication to its founding principles of sustainable farming, education, and food justice.
Position Summary
As we enter our 23rd year we are seeking to expand our core team by adding a Food Justice Coordinator position. We are looking for a motivated individual, who is passionate about creating and improving programs for equitable food access. Since this is a new role there is some flexibility to mold this position depending on the strengths and interests of the candidate.
The Food Justice Coordinator will collaborate with the Phillies Bridge Food Justice Committee, Farm Manager and Administrative Coordinator to develop and carry out Phillies Bridge’s Food Justice programming. As the lead organizer for Food Justice at Phillies Bridge, the Coordinator will also be responsible for maintaining existing partnerships with local organizations, as well as developing future partnerships with mission-aligned organizations and community members who experience food apartheid.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage sliding scale share administration, including applications, communications and budgeting for PBFP’s Food Justice Program
- Manage existing relationships with community based organizations (New Paltz Schools, UC Healthy Families, Family of NP, UIDN, Our Core, Institute for Family Health)
- Seek external funding for the food justice program and to sustain the food justice coordinator role through grants and other fundraisers with support from the food justice and development committee
- Administer and analyze existing surveys to collect data on effectiveness of program
- Engage with the community around issues of food access and farming through social media
- Report to Food Justice committee in monthly meetings, recruiting committee members for support where needed
Employment Terms
This is a part time position. The position is grant funded from October 2021 through October 2022, with the intention to seek funding to expand the position in future years. The compensation is commensurate with experience starting at $19/hour. A free CSA share from June-November will also be included.
Basic Qualifications
- Self-starter and independent worker
- Excellent communication skills
- Knowledge of food systems and food justice
- Proficiency in Google Docs & Sheets and comfortable with social media
- Demonstrated experience with projects that require attention to detail and efficiency
Preferred Qualifications
- High energy, dynamic individual who is excited about improving accessibility to fresh grown food
- Previous experience working with underserved/minority communities
- Experience fundraising through grant writing and fundraising campaigns
- Proficient in Spanish
