Intern Opportunities within the USGBC Massachusetts Chapter

A variety of unpaid internships for credits and experience are now open within the Massachusetts Chapter of the U.S. Green Building Council

The Chapter:

The U.S. Green Building Council Massachusetts Chapter (USGBC MA) is a 501c3 non-profit within the national U.S. Green Building Council’s Chapter network.

With one staff member and over a hundred volunteers, the Chapter has decided to utilize professional internships to assist us in the development and daily tasks of the Chapter. These unpaid internships offer real life experience and networking aiding the professional development for our interns

The USGBC MA, is a 501c3 non-profit committed to promote the design, construction, and operation of sustainable buildings and communities in Massachusetts through education, mutual support, and advocacy, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life. It represents the entire state of Massachusetts including our new USGBC MA-West Branch.  It brings together people from all disciplines associated with green building and sustainable development, ranging from industry professionals, to educators, administrators, lawyers, product manufacturers and retailers, realtors and property developers.  The USGBC MA is funded through workshops and education programs, sponsorships and membership dues.

Internship Locations:  Boston

General Job description:  To support the chapter’s executive director and the chapter’s various committees in the following areas:

• Administration
• Membership Development
• Communications
• Education

• Course credits are available if applied for through your university or college internship program. While the positions are unpaid, every effort is made to ensure that each intern completes a project or projects that can be used to further their education and have in their portfolios.

• On the job training for non-profit management, learning how to work with a dynamic Board and associated committees; meeting management, communications technology, including html experience, and working with Civi CRM and Drupal systems
• Chance to work with established green building professionals from our Board of Directors on real life sustainable design projects through our mentorship program
• Free attendance to Chapter LEED workshops, Chapter LEED Accreditation Exam Prep courses, and Chapter  and/or sponsored outside events.

• Could potentially lead to a full-time position, contingent on budgetary issues and performance.

General Job requirements:

• Ideally studying marketing, communications, business, public affairs, government affairs or other related courses, whether as a major or as a minor in an architectural, engineering, environmental studies, or other associated discipline
• Must be computer and internet savvy; website experience/knowledge a definite plus, with proficiency in word, excel, and photoshop. Experience with CiviCRM, Drupal, and/or javascript a definite advantage
• Prepared to do both innovative and everyday work
• Good written and verbal skills
• Highly organized
• Willing to commit to working hard and, once committed, being reliable
• Knowledge of construction, environmental issues or energy conservation a plus.
