Shaun Walker: Putin’s New Russia and the Ghosts of the Past

January 24, 2018 @ 4:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Please join us for a book talk by journalist Shaun Walker. The Long Hangover traces Vladimir Putin’s use of history, especially victory in the Second World War, to create a new sense of national pride among Russians and fill the void left by the Soviet collapse. It looks at how this phenomenon, along with a parallel process in Ukraine, led to the events of 2014 and the resurgent Russia we see today. Copies of the book will be available for sale at the event. Refreshments will be provided.

Walker is the Moscow Correspondent for The Guardian and has reported from Russia for more than a decade. He studied Russian and Soviet history at Oxford University and has worked as a journalist in Moscow for more than a decade.
